Why the title ‘The Counsellor’s Journey’?

Great question!

To answer, allow me to share a little about myself.

My name is Rivkah Pincus. I’m 32 years old, married to an amazing husband and we are blessed with 3 fantastic kids.

In line with being honest, I'd say "I am still discovering what it is that I want to be when I grow up."

At the start of my academic journey, I studied a year of a ‘Bachelors of Science,’ (majoring in Maths) for which I received a Dean’s award and an award for academic excellence in Maths, yet didn't feel this course was giving me a sense of fulfilment.

I reassessed where I was at and changed the direction of my studies towards the Social Sciences.

After a long haul (with lots of stuff going on in between, including getting married and the arrival of child #1), at the end of 2014 I completed my ‘Bachelors of Social Sciences’, majoring in Counselling.

As part of my training to become a qualified counsellor, I completed 3 extremely different and interesting placements.

The first was in a school context working with students, the second was at The Salvation Army, for the most part counselling court mandated clients who had gotten in trouble with the law and were required to attend counselling and my third and final placement involved creating mental health resources for a not for profit organisation.

To add to the mix, I have also been working as an educator for almost 13 years.

In my current role, I plan, create & implement a Health & Wellbeing program for students in years 5-12 (as well as teach Maths and write curriculum).

And of course I’ve recently discovered a newfound favourite hobby- blogging!

You get the picture?

There is quite an interesting mix of stuff going on for me.

But if I'm being 100% honest, I’d say...

I am still discovering what it is that I want to be ‘when I grow up’.

Yes, I enjoy what I do.

Yes I have been happy and grown throughout all these experiences.

And yes, I am on a constant JOURNEY

A constant journey of movement.

A journey of discovery.

A journey of change.

A journey of growth & setbacks.

And yes, throughout this journey I have my ups and downs, my struggles and my successes, my inspiration and my lack of.

But more importantly, my journey does not only include my various roles and things that I have done, but at the core includes what is going on internally for me, in my personal world.

Navigating stressors, managing feelings of anxiety, relationship issues, dealing with grief and loss... are just a few examples of things we ALL experience as we navigate the journey of life.

Myself included.

Aren’t we all on a JOURNEY

So in line with being real, I decided to share a little about MY JOURNEY, as a trained ‘COUNSELLOR’; who also struggles, who also has challenges, who also seeks growth & fulfilment just like YOU, whilst aiming to share and empower others with knowledge and skills that can better their lives!

Hence the title was coined

'The Counsellor’s Journey.'
